Integrated Project Controls Solution
Powered By AZURE Logic Apps, Data Factory, Data Lake and Power BI
Delivered an integrated project controls solution for the generation division of an ASX50 integrated energy company
The company manages a large portfolio of renewables projects including solar, wind, BESS, and pumped storage hydro with the solution focusing on:
- Project cost control and planning
- Integration with SAP
- Enterprise data warehousing and dashboarding
The scale of the portfolio required the implementation of a robust project control platform that integrated project planning and scheduling, project cost control, and corporate finance systems. With the enterprise data warehousing and reporting capability supporting a program of this scale, now and into the future.
Process Overview
The client-side project controls team leverages the solution to manage day-to-day planning, cost control processes, and reporting for all projects in the business’s generation portfolio. Actual costs and commitments are updated in the cost control solution through a coupled integration with the corporate finance tool, while coding structures are integrated between the cost and planning tools to enable robust cost/schedule integration. Each month, snapshots of planning and cost data are captured by the controls team and updated into an enterprise reporting data warehouse, enabling period-based trend analysis and supporting enterprise-level reporting requirements.
Technical Overview
The solution leveraged Azure Data Factory, SQL Server, Static Web Apps, Data Lake, and Power BI to generate monthly snapshot datasets for month‑end reporting. Integration with SAP was delivered through Azure Logic Apps and API Management, connecting into the client’s existing integration middleware layer.
